Musical Theatre Course Core Subjects
Elliott Clarke offers a flexible and tailor-made training tool designed to prepare talented youngsters for a successful and versatile career in Performing Arts. Depending on the level at entry and the intensity of individual training, the course can be designed to last one, two or three years.
Classical Ballet
Providing a base for many other techniques, ballet classes are designed to help students achieve their potential in this discipline. A very high level of commitment is expected from students wishing to enter a teaching program for classical ballet.
Contemporary Dance
Based on the Martha Graham technique, classes will encourage students to develop breadth of movement with weight and relaxation to encourage the ebb and flow essential to this style of dance.
Jazz Theatre Dance
Isolation movement forms the basis of jazz dance and requires excellent co-ordination. Rapid pick up of routines and styles are essential skills in the commercial world and these will be encouraged by inviting guest choreographers to teach. The program will ensure the dancer has an insight in all aspects of jazz dance from lyrical to street urban.
Musical Theatre
Students wishing to specialize in this area will require strong acting and singing skills. There will also be an emphasis on tap dance as this earliest form of jazz prepares students for jazz techniques and is helpful with rhythm and syncopation.
Drama
Classes consist of drama workshops, voice training and audition technique. Designed to encourage self awareness and build self confidence, classes will improve gesture, speech and control of movement. Students will work as team members as well as individuals and will explore life experiences through improvisation.
Singing
Integral to the musical theatre course, singing classes will broaden the student portfolio to include a full repertoire from musical theatre to blues, gospel, jazz and contemporary songs. We will focus on correct breathing technique, voice range and elocution.
Body Conditioning
We will provide individual programs including Pilates to enhance muscular strength, core stability and flexibility.
Physiotherapy
As part of the team, a physiotherapist will work closely with the students to reduce the risk and impact of injuries.
Agency
The Elliott Clarke Performing Arts Agency will assist students in finding work during their graduate term. Choreographers, producers and directors will be invited to the college in students' final term to hold test auditions and master classes. Working closely with London contacts, we will ensure students audition for suitable roles. Advice will be provided in audition procedures and before contracts are signed.
